Park History

After the Civil War the area was a public market. In 1903 it was designated a park named for Samuel L Gilmore, a city attorney, who donated $800 for curbstones and plantings.

In 1904 a board was appointed to oversee the park:

A renovation was done in 1990, which included curbstone straightening and planting of crepe myrtles and palms.
